Sketch

As I approach this project, I want to pay attention to subtle yet meaningful details within each canvas. I also want to depict emotion through body language to enhance physical expression. I am considering putting most of the focus on the upper body as it will be in line with the canvas and create a central point of focus in my sketch. Instead of going for a really polished and detailed image, I will focus on the bits that most count and keep the design simplistic. I will make my Dunning-Kruger Effect canvas showcase a landscape as they are often underappreciated and considered simple art. I think for Imposter Syndrome, I will go with a portrait. A portrait piece seems to yield a bit more respect in the art scene from my observations within the program and when executed properly skill and experience is fully on display.

As I dive deeper into fine tuning this piece, I will create a clean outline and prep things for color. This will act as a foundation for the emotional experience that color will bring about. I am satisfied with my initial sketch and think that with a bit of clean up on the lines to add a hint of detail it should be ready for some vibrance.

As I approach my color choices for this piece, I am considering using brown as a neutral color to divert the eyes. Then ill come in with bright colors to draw the eyes in to the parts I want the viewer to focus on. In an effort to bypass realism I will make my painters yellow with funky green hair. I am considering a hard counter to yellow and adding red to their shirts in order to direct the eyes towards their posture and body language. I want my viewer to notice the raised shoulders on one subject and the slouched look on the other. The position of the head to further emphasize the disappointment of Imposter Syndrome. I want to give the landscape canvas a child like color fill in where the subject fails at a task as simple as coloring within the lines. On the other hand, I want the portrait canvas to show a crisp and well-developed image. I want my viewers to see my Dunning-Kruger subject with his head and shoulders high, a big smile and self-pride in his elementary painting. On the other hand, I want my subject with Imposter Syndrome to be read as someone who feels less about his work. I want the viewer to notice the dissatisfaction and disappointment in his frame despite having produced a superior piece.
